A Grendle is a large creature with 6 legs and a powerful counter-balancing tail.It moves either upright on two legs (standing 8' tall) at a rate of 4" or on all 6 standing 4' at the shoulder and moving at 18". It has skin like a crocodiles' hide with spines in a double row extending from the back of the head to the tip of the tail. The longest of these spines are located in the center of its back and are 10" in length.

Combat: A Grendle fights with its body upright, attacking with its four powerful arms and its enourmous jaws. The jaws are so large and powerful, that a natural 20 indicates that a part of the victims body has been completelt removed. If a Grendle is pushed to retreat,he will move on all 6 legs, and attack pursuers with his powerful tail. A Grendle has also been known to hurl boulders at opponents with its prodigous strength.

Habitat/Society: A Grendle locates a cave or digs a burrow early in its life that it will call home for the rest of its life, unless that home is destroyed. It life is then spent eating whatever it can find close to home, having no favorite meals, but merely not liking to travel. After gorging itself, it will sleep for up to a week. There is no social structure among Grendles, and all Grendles are hermophrodites. If two Grendles chance to meet each other, they will immediately mate and go their separate ways, each carrying a fertilized egg that can lie dormant in the body for years. The Grendle will hatch its eggs only once in its life when it feels secure. After it has hatched eggs, it will kill all other Grendles on sight.

Ecology: The area around a Grendles lair will slowly become a wasteland as it uproots trees to get at animals in them and digs holes to get at burrowing creatures. As all creatures in an area get devoured, the wasteland spreads as the Grendle destroys whatever blocks its access to food in an ever widening circle.
