Land leeches or blood spiders, are about the size of an average housecat. Usually a brownish red color, covered in protective horny skin, with 4 legs protruding from each side of thier oval shaped bodies. A relative of the common tick which has grown into a new species of parasite. Probably the result of feeding upon magical creatures, these beasts are known for quick take-downs. Combat: Land leeches form no strategies, but lie motionless waiting for something to move in thier line of sight. Surrounding the body of the creature are its eyes, small red dots between the legs with which it can detect movement as far as 90y away. Any leech who detects a moving creature will attack it immediately by attempting to latch on to the victim with its powerful legs (Str 18), inflicting 1d8+1 point of damage. After making a successful hit, the creature is assumed to be attached to the victim, and will drain 1d4 points of blood every round thereafter, automatically, until death. |
Habitat/Society: Completely chaotic, they will attack each other in cases of starvation, mating habits unknown. Ecology: Land leeches have many enemies, giant lizards, griffons, even turtles have been known to hide in their shells and pluck off a leg or two. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
