This flying plant-eater grows to be quite large and has sufficient ability to carry a man.
This creature was originally created for the game Space: 1889 from Game Designer's Workshop, by Frank Chadwick. The picture was done by Janet Aulisio, and has been used without permission. Space: 1889 is out of print, and I hate to see it forgotten.
Combat:
The flying skrill attacks with a claw/claw/gore routine, but it carrying a rider will only attack with its horns if instructed by its rider.
During combat, a skrill and rider will cooperate as a team, the skrill responding to a series of click and screetches which convey a simple series of commands.

Habitat/Society:
Skrill are flying herd animals, much the same in personality to deer or caribou on Earth. They will violently defent their territories, however.
Once in captivity, the skrill will not voluntarily reproduce after birth, so each animal required by the Queln cage masters must be captured after birth, taken from its ferocious mother, and brought back to the cages.
Skrill raised by Queln skrill riders are raised blindfolded to overcome their wildness. However, one in three are never tamed sufficiently for use and are sacrificed ritually.
Ecology:
Flying skrill appear to subsist off of the leaves of liftwood trees and bushes in the Martian highlands.
