than their distant cousins. Though the El`gars' frames are smaller by comparison, they are naturally stronger than their cousins, a feature stressed by the El`gars' muscle tone.
Clothing is always simple, normally soft leather shirts and pantaloons. Its color is usually earthen tones. Foot wear is shoes or boots.
Combat:
The warrior class is one of great pride and esteem within the tribe. Though each member of the tribe is trained to use the spear or harpoon, the flail and the long sword, Elgar tribes maintain a standing army. It forms the hunting parties (usually four warriors), the High guard (ten 2HD warriors which guard the High council members), the Elite Guard (the chieftain's personal guard-6 four HD warriors). The chieftain is usually the most decorated male or female warrior (6-8 HD) or a highly respected priest or priestess (level 6-8).

Habitat/Society:
The El`gar society is governed by a variety of factors: the surrounding habitat (which is of great concern to the El`gar), religion, a strong sense of family and an equally strong sense of honor.
The El`gar live in huts, animal-skin tents, or other semi-permanent structure, favoring an area next to or near a mountain lake. The El`gar use only what is needed from the area in which they live, believing that one day they may need that which was wasted today, tomorrow. An El`gar child is considered an adult after his or her first hunting kill. The Elgar live about 550 human years. The Elgar do not have children easily which explains there dwindling numbers.
The Elgar are only now beginning to discover the innate elven ability to harness the energies which are magic. Some consider it an abomination. Others consider magic a blessing increasing the ease of work, detection of enemy races, etc. The overall view of magic, however, is to approach it with caution.
There is no defined social order per se. Each member of the tribe has a prescribed job for which he or she is responsible. Examples include farming, warriors (a standing army), hunters, tailors, etc. There are special members within the tribe however.
The El`gar is ruled by a Chieftain and advised by the High Council of Elders. The Chieftain is responsible for the day to day operations of his tribe. With the full moons ('quirro' in El`gar), the chieftain from each tribe meets at a prescribed meeting place. The tribal leaders are joined by The Council of Elders and the discussion is more of clan matters. Most major decisions are made during this time.
The High Council of Elders is made up of the seven eldest Elgar in the tribe. Its purpose is to give advise to aid in the decision-making process of a chieftain. Examples of decisions advised upon are movement to a new location due to lack of game, declarations of war, judicial matters etc. The council consists of the eldest El`gar in order to take advantage of the experiences gained. The High council sends three representatives of its tribal council to form the clans' "Council of Quirro" (Full moons).
After the High Council and the chieftain, the figure most called upon in the tribe is the tribal priest or priestess (up to 8th level). The cleric generally venerates a nature Power.
There are few El`gar mages. The few that brave the criticism are generally no more that 3rd level. These figures are regarded with both curiosity and disdain.
Ecology:
The El`gar do as little as possible to interfere with the habitat in which they occupy. Races they would encounter are those that take refuge in the (low) mountains. The El`gar do not stand for the destrction of the environment, going to great lengths to cease needless acts.
