These giant furry bat-like creatures have humanoid legs that enable them to stand like men. Byakhee can be summoned by clerics of Hastur through use of a gate spell (1d4 will appear).

Byakhee are intelligent, telepathic, and will obey those who carry the Elder Sign (i.e., that red pentagram in Quake) or who appeal successfully to Hastur when he isn't hungry.

Combat: Byakhee attack with their clawed feet, raking for 1d10 points of damage per successful hit.

Habitat/Society: Byakhee are able to teleport throughout the Prime Material Plane at will, carrying human beings with them on their backs or in their talons.

Ecology: Byakhee are supernatural creatures that serve the god Hastur the Unspeakable (He Who Must Not Be Named, Maste of the Air). Hastur may summon 2d10 Byakhee to aid it in battle. In addition, any time the name "Hastur" is spoken in a Crystal Sphere that Hastur has an anchor, there is a 25%chance that Hastur will hear and send 1d4 Byakhee to slay the speaker. If they are defeated, there is a 25% chance that Hastur himself will appear to destroy the blasphemer. He's touchy about that.
